So I'm in the midst of upgrading megagames.com from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. Of course, we're going to add a lot of improvements to the site as part of the migration.
I thought it would be useful to track our progress here and on my professional blog, so check back for more articles.
What will I talk about?
To begin with, I'm interested in improving the performance of the site -- MG sees thousands of visitors per day. The current version gets a lot of anonymous user traffic, so it does okay with Boost and not much else.
The new site will include new services for authenticated users, so I've been researching how other sites that have high volume authenticated user traffic keep pages flowing quickly.
Of course, I've checked out examiner.com, which runs on Drupal and I'll certainly be looking into using MongoDB as our backend database as much as possible. But I'll also be looking at other technologies behind everything from online poker sites to streaming video.
If you have any thoughts or experience on the matter, I'd love to hear some comments.
